I really like what this app does already but what I need, and I suspect a lot of other musicians need, is an app that can start a backing track and show lyrics simultaneously.

Hate to disappoint you, but this is not going to happen with LivePrompter. LivePrompter is purely a specialized teleprompter for musicians, and I'm not planning to change that.
There are other applications that allow you to embed MP3 files, e.g. MobileSheets by ZuberSoft, but these are mainly for displaying scanned sheet music, not auto-scrolling teleprompters. And their audio capabilities are mainly for personal review and practice, not for serious live usage. TBH I wouldn't trust these add-on capabilities for serious live usage of backing tracks; I'd want something specialized and road-optimized for that purpose.
Maybe you find what you are looking for amongst the "Karaoke" type apps?
