Ok sorry if this is such a simple question, but can you give me a step by step way to update the Liveprompter program that I can refer back to until I commit it to memory? I see you post when a new version is available but I'm afraid to touch my stuff of fear I won't be able to have it ready for my next gig.

Pretty simple: you download the installer program and let it do its work. The installer should know from previous installations where the program folder is, but you can also point it there manually.
A LivePrompter installer will NOT overwrite your LivePrompter.ini file. It will also not do anything to your song folder, so installing a new version will not harm your content.
If you're reeeeally paranoid about things going wrong, simply make a copy of your LivePrompter program directory (that's where LivePrompter.exe and LivePrompter.ini live) to somewhere else on your PC. Then you can easily restore the state things were in before updating. LivePrompter doesn't install any .dll libraries into the system directory; the only thing it will do outside its home directory is install its specific typeface fonts.
Normally, updating LivePrompter is extremely painless - run the installer and that's it.
If and when I make breaking changes, I will explicitly announce them in the News section of the website - but so far there haven't been any. Every version of LivePrompter so far has been fully compatible with content and settings of previous ones (as far as I remember 😉).
