Hello to the folks here at the forum! I've just published a new update to LivePrompter mobile that contains the MIDI functionality that had been missing in the mobile version. Now the mobile version can do everything the "classic" Windows version can - and more... Cheers, Torsten

Hi Torsten, Thank you for making your hard work available for all, your app is just what I have been searching for, I have been using it on Windows, but would make it more useable for me on my Android tablet, It is a Hudl 2 which runs 5.1, if you live in the UK you will be familiar with the name, but Tesco stopped supporting it back in 2019 and now it will not connect to the internet to download the all from play store, is it possible you could send me APK to sideload and allow the app to use an SD card for song storage, then I could use it for gigging, once again thank you for your generosity. is it possible you could send me APK to sideload and allow the app to use an SD card for song storage Hey Keith,
sorry, LivePrompter will not run on Android 5.1. That tablet is simply to old to run LivePrompter.
There are lots of cheap Android tablets around - I can recommend the Lenovo M10, which works nicely with LivePrompter. Do yourself a favor and invest in a somewhat modern tablet - that Hudl is past its usable life...
Cheers,
Torsten

Hi Torsten, sorry to reopen an old thread but, just to let you know, I installed LivePrompter 1.2.2 (you provided the apk in another thread) on an Android Lollipop 5.1 Sony tablet. It seems to work without any problems as my new devices do. Of course, it can connect to internet and download apps from PlayStore, but LivePrompter seems not available to download in this way. I wonder if it is possible for you to provide a way to test (if you agree) also newer versions. If I correctly understand you are using Flutter framework, is it possible that you have set a too strictly minSdkVersion?
Thank you for this app and for this useful forum

Hi there,
Given my limited time for this project, I'm not going to invest a lot of it into making LivePrompter compatible with old hardware - hope you'll understand. And building and publishing individual apks adds complexity - each publish is already quite a task with four platforms to manage.
Regarding minSdkVersion: this parameter is due to some of the libraries I use with LivePrompter, especially the ones that connect to operating-system-specific services. These will not function below a certain SDK level. Unfortunately, this drives up the overall requirements for the hardware you can use with LivePrompter. I simply couldn't build a piece of software like LivePrompter without relying on third-party libraries, so unfortunately it is what it is...

Of course I understand, I can imagine the amount of effort required, I really thank you for that. It was just to let you know, just in case it could be somehow helpful to you or anyone else. Regarding the parameter: I thought about the usage of third-party libraries so it seems really strange to me that works (apparently, until now) without any problems on an old device. Again, just to inform you about it

Since Version 1.2.2, I have made some changes that required me to raise the minSDKVersion to 25. So in theory, LivePrompter should run on Android 7 and above (which should be most Android tablets that aren't from the stone-age of mobile technology). But Google Play has been a bit hit-and-miss to some users, so trying to go directly to play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.liveprompter.liveprompter may help. Regarding working on older devices: I believe installing an .apk directly ignores the minSDKVersion, so it may or may not work on your device - until you use a function that doesn't work on that OS version. I had massive problems linking to Dropbox on Android 5 devices, because the callback process didn't work. With SDK before 25, especially MIDI functionality and LivePrompter Connect (not sure about other libraries) will not work (and LivePrompter my crash or freeze when you try using them). But as long as you don't try to use these functions, LivePrompter may actually work for you. But that's a bit of a lottery - it will work for some, not so for others. I could upload Android apk files with new releases - but I'm reluctant to do that, since then I'll get all these support requests from people getting crashes and malfunctions from their old devices. Not really worth investing time for me, TBH. Overall my answer to owners of old devices is: do yourself a favor and invest in a moderately modern tablet - you can get something that runs LivePrompter and other apps reliably with no need to fiddle with sideloading apk files. Entry-level tablets like the Lenovo M10 gen3 are cheap and run LivePrompter without any problem. There are only 5% of all Android devices left pre-Android 7 - I'm going to focus on the 95%. So any reports of Android 5 tablets successfully running LivePromtper are mildly interesting, but will not change my approach. And - hoping for your understanding - with this I will end this discussion...
