I had potential buyer tell me that if I could get some backing track capability linked to a unit with liveprompter it would streamline the equipment on stage and make my product much more desirable.
I've heard of this Cantabile thingy... but does anyone know if there is some simple/basic backing track linkage with liveprompter? Dumb it down for me if possible.
I run a dell laptop with Windows 10 and have a backup mouse onstage as well as an Airturn pedal. Thanks!

If you want to link a backing track player with LivePrompter, there's a couple of things it needs to be capable of:
- reveive MIDI commands
- Load a backing track when receiving a MIDI program Change
- start playback when receiving a MIDI CC or Note On
Essentially, you connect a MIDI interface to your LivePrompter PC and make it send MIDI commands to your backing track player (hardware or software).
Then you configure LivePrompter to send out the right MIDI program change to load a backing track when loading a song in LivePrompter. For this, you'll need to configure a text file MidiSend.txt with the program changes that correspond to your LivePrompter songs. Then, set "MidiOutPC=yes" and set the correct MidiOutputPort and MidiOutputChannel to get the MIDI commands to your player.
Now your backing track player can automatically load the corresponding backing track on receiving the program change and be ready to play.
Next, you configure LivePrompter so that a "play" command is automatically sent to your backing track player when you start scrolling. You can define any NoteOn or CC command to be sent with the Play button - setting "MidiOutKeyPausePlay" to the right command. E.g. if your backing track player starts playback on receiving a note C4, then the correct setting is MidiOutKeyPausePlay=N C4
And yes, Cantabile can be configured as such a backing track player, but it may be a bit too "big" for just such a task - you'll need at least the "Solo" version to use media players, which will cost you 69$ - and that's an annual charge if you want to keep receiving updates. But yes, Cantabile can be configured to do exactly that; but I won't go into details here - that could take some time...
Cheers,
Torsten
