Hello and thank you for the great app. I am not great at computer programming (or computers in general, to be honest). I wanted to know if there is a way to highlight the area of the screen focus so it stands out from the rest of the lyrics. I am using this for performances, and I need to glance down at my screen for prompts, but I can't always pick out the right line as they are scrolling. I apologize if this is an easy thing I am overlooking. Thanks for any advise.

Short answer: no, there isn't. Longer answer: LivePrompter isn't trying to be a "karaoke" type application that shows you exactly what to sing at what time - it is more a replacement of the bulky binders full of loose sheets that musicians have been dragging around for ages. When I built LivePrompter, I decided against such a karaoke-type highlight feature. For one, to be useful, your song files would need to be perfectly in sync with your song - line by line. Without time-mapping every line, the screen focus will typically be lagging behind or moving ahead of the current line at times (even if you use granular time marking with d_time or bar tags at certain points in your song) - which would be confusing as h***. Also if you're not using LivePrompter with backing tracks or click tracks, every performance will be a bit different, timing-wise; again a source for deviation from the "perfect position". That's why there is no such "focus window" in LivePrompter. To be somewhat provocative: if you need a "hightlight" on your screen to help you find what line you should be singing, it looks like your preparation isn't really cutting it. A well-prepared song file should be sufficiently structured for you to know at a glance where you are. LivePrompter gives you a number tools to make it very readable. Look at stuff like - Most important (to me): section titles showing you where you are (Verse 1, Chorus, ...) - they have a different color from the body text
- the option to have your chorus set in bold type (you need to use {start_of_chorus} and {end_of_chorus} tags for this to work
- comments and custom comments in a different color from body text
- highlights to draw your attention to certain blocks of text. For example, you could highlight the first line of every verse (typically a time in a song when I glance at the screen) to make it stand out more. But for me, it is typically sufficient to just have an empty line and a section title before every new verse to find the beginning easily
Then structure your song files well with meaningful line breaks to break up your song optically, and it should be pretty clear at any time where you are.
Plus, you should know the song well enough that you don't need a "highlight" line to guide you through it line by line during a performance.
One other option: If the scrolling distracts you, you could also disable automatic scrolling and "page through" the song e.g. with a foot pedal. That way, everything stands still until you actively turn the page. But of course that requires you to turn pages yourself, which may also be distracting. You'll have to decide which option is less distracting. Personally, I prefer the scrolling mode, so I don't need to invest any focus in managing my song sheets - they're just there when I need them. But I admit that the scrolling songsheet has the potential of keeping you glued to the screen instead of looking at the audience - I actually practice keeping my eyes away from the screen and looking elsewhere when I'm in my studio / rehearsal room. Like every tool, LivePrompter will take some time to get used to. I've been using it for years now in live and rehearsal situations, and I'm not missing a "focus highlight" at all... Cheers, Torsten

That would be a nice feature, even if only highlighted manually via keyboard or foot pedal. (Our sound guy has control of the PC at most live shows.) I agree, automation would be nearly impossible for the reasons you noted.
